I gave the children the assignment of writing down their goals this morning. I know Christopher's goals will involve carnivorous plants and new bikes. His goals will be very short-term and inwardly-focused.
Similarly, I know that my overarching goal is to serve God well, to be always ready to answer His call, but I mostly find myself stuck in short-term goals: laundry, meals, newsletter. Sometimes I find myself doing the daily tasks and wondering at their point!! I sometimes need to be reminded that how I live my life, in the little things is seen by more people than I realize. Like Doc stated in "Busy Man," "Character is doing the right thing when you know you can get away with doing anything." I think that their definition of character is very similar to living a Christian life. We must live our lives, even when we think it doesn't matter and no one is watching, in a way that glorifies our Heavenly Father.
