In my last post, I shared my thoughts on the very human reaction to many different emotions: tears. I'd like to look at another approach of tears and that can be found in Revelation 21:4:
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (NIV)
My son Ryan would take stumbles and tumbles as he learned how to walk, run, and ride a bike. Sometimes I was right there with him, but not always. He would come to me with tears streaming down his face and I would pull out a hanky or grab a tissue or paper towel, whatever was handy, and dry his face. I'd ask him if he was okay or better and he always said yes. A hug was shared and more often than not Ryan would say he loved me. What moments to remember!
In this life we will have experiences that will involve more than a scraped knee or elbow and they will result in tears of pain and sorrow, even disappointment. The passing of a loved one, the suffering of someone close to us, or a betrayal are such examples. We may have a dear one who can comfort us and dry our tears but no one will be able to dry our tears as completely as our heavenly Father. Though we wait for His Kingdom, the New Jerusalem, to be established on earth and continue to experience sorrowful events in this life, we have a promise that we can put faith in: He will be with us to wipe every tear from our eyes; every tear, not just a few or some, but all. Yes, tears are a natural, human reaction to many different emotions. We may be discouraged after experiencing what seems like endless seasons of weeping and crying. But remember, there will come a time when our tears will be wiped away and those seasons will be a thing of the past. As a mother who drys the eyes of her child, so our Father will offer us comfort from our sorrows. God will be with us. Have faith and trust in His word: He will be so close to us that He will be able to wipe away every tear from our eyes!
