When God has given me all of Himself through every trial, tribulation, and joy-filled moment, what can I give Him in return? What would please my God? My soul longs to please Him for His love for me is so obvious! My mind raced through several responses: thankfulness and appreciation, obedience, faith, hope, love, and trust. But you know what happened? I came right back to my favorite verse in Micah 6:8. You might be saying to yourself- "Well, Diane, that was quite convenient." However, this little gem of scripture speaks to me so often that it's become a "living", daily prayer- that I will seek what's right, impart mercy to others, and walk humbly and meekly with my God.
Micah told Israel that the LORD had shown them what was good and what he required-
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (NIV)
When God answers my prayers, I feel so overwhelmed with emotion. When I feel His presence during difficult times, I can hardly speak. In times of joy and laughter, His blessings sometimes bring me to tears. So, even though others may not understand the connection, after all that He's been through with me, I feel the need to give Him a part of me that binds me closer to Him. So what will I do?
1. Seek to always do what's right. Seek Him first for the wisdom in how to do what's right.
2. Though my carnal mind wishes to ignore that others should be given mercy for they know not what they do, yet I know sometimes they do, I will seek to impart a merciful attitude.
3. But overall I know that the first two, seeking to do what's right and being merciful, can best be accomplished when I choose to walk humbly with my God. The path with Him will lead me successfully to my destination whether there are bumps in the road, detours, or closed roads. If I feel lost, who better to navigate the path than Him? Most important, though, I need to remember that my walk is to be that of a lowly and modest traveler.
My prayer is that through all of "it"-life's ups and downs and blessed moments- when you know He was there, that in return, you, too, will choose to walk humbly with your God.
